Insurance Information

Lake Norman Eye Care works with many insurance carriers and payment plans.

Insurance plans can be difficult to understand. Our knowledgeable staff will work hard to determine your coverage, and the most advantageous way for you to use your benefits. The type of insurance used will depend on the nature of your visit.

Vision Insurance – Often purchased as an addition to traditional employer-provided healthcare, this type of insurance is designed mainly to cover a wellness exam when the main reason is to update your prescription for eyeglasses or contact lenses. There may also be a material benefit that will help pay towards or allow a discount on glasses or contact lenses. It is not equipped to deal with medical conditions, injuries, “pink eyes”, etc.

Use it or lose it – Depending on the type of vision insurance plan you’ve enrolled in, your vision insurance benefits may expire annually. This means if you don’t “use it” you “lose it” until the next year. You have usually contributed to these plans, as they are often a pre-paid benefit for eyewear.

Many of the Flexible Spending Accounts or Health Saving Accounts will not “roll over” to the next year either. You risk losing that money entirely if you do not spend what you have allocated. These plans may also be used for prescription eyewear and contact lenses.

Medical Insurance – We can bill your medical insurance for covered conditions, such as “pink eye”, dry eyes, headaches, allergies, glaucoma, macular degeneration, vision exams for diabetes, contact lens complications, and other eye related pathology. Medical insurance does not usually cover vision problems, such as nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism.

Out of network – In the event that we do not accept your medical or vision insurance, we will provide you will an itemized receipt so that you may file a claim for reimbursement for your wellness exam, office visit or eyewear.

CareCredit – As a service to our patients, we are pleased to offer the CareCredit card, the nation’s leading patient payment program. CareCredit lets you purchase your eyewear now-then pay for it over time with low monthly payments that are easy to fit into your monthly budget.

*Our office does not make the above rules, they are made by the insurance companies themselves, and we must comply with them legally and contractually.
